Government

In a groundbreaking national effort, communities across the United States – from cities, to counties, to an entire state – are heeding the call to become “dementia friendly.”  We are proud that Saline is the only officially declared, and trained, dementia friendly City government in Michigan, and one of a very few anywhere.

Thanks to the leadership of Council Member Christen Mitchell and Mayor Brian Marl, the Saline City Council adopted a resolution supporting the Dementia Friendly Community initiative, then backed up their words with action: holding workshops on dementia friendly workplace practices for municipal employees. Over 80% of city employees attended these workshops. Others have subsequently viewed them on video.

In November 2019, Dementia Friendly Saline responded to a request from our neighbors in Dexter, and provided Dementia Friendly training to the municipal employees of our neighboring community.
